Brief biography

Hans E Madsen.
Born 1958 in Denmark.

Hans E Madsen worked with painting until the middle of the eighties, which later led him to move on to working with objects and space.
The interest for the spacial and specific expression of a given location was shared with four colleagues. In 1986 the five joined forces by establishing the artists group: 'Solkorset'.
Through the exhibitions arranged by this group, theories and rules for how the work/event should relate to a given space and its story as an exhibition zone were demonstrated.

Today Hans E Madsens prime interest is light. The electric light, light as a living factor, which in HEM´s work becomes a 'being' within a space. Lamps float between floor and ceiling, not purely as sources of light, but as live elements. Elements, which through their composition of various displacements, create tensions between illusion and reality.
